What Kind of Dentures Are Right for Me?

When you have missing teeth, it can affect your speech, your ability to eat certain foods, and the appearance of your facial structure. But dentures can restore your oral functionality and give you a beautiful smile.

Dr. Howard Jeon and Dr. Michael Monto lead our team of professionals with superior expertise at Advanced Implant Dentistry & MedSpa of North Shore. We offer a host of denture options at our practice in Glenview, Illinois, providing you with the best solution for your oral needs.

Let’s look at why dentures might be the right choice for you.

Dentures explained

When you have missing teeth, dentures serve as replacements. Most dentures can easily be removed at any time. It might take a few weeks to get used to them, but they look natural and provide healthy oral function. They also help fill out your face.

Your upper denture fits over your gums and adheres to the roof of your mouth. Your lower denture sits on your bottom gum line, leaving room for your tongue to move freely.

Our dentures are custom-made, designed to accommodate the shape of your mouth. After your exam and assessment, we work with you to determine the type of denture best-suited for you.

Types of dentures

Dentures are versatile to meet your individual oral needs. Here are the different types of dentures we offer:

Conventional

This type requires the full removal of any remaining teeth. Once your gums properly heal after about 8-12 weeks, we give you a full set of artificial teeth, giving you many of the same benefits that natural teeth do.

Immediate

We prepare immediate dentures before your teeth removal by taking an impression of your mouth before we remove your remaining teeth. This allows you to use the immediate denture right after your extraction. We can make the proper adjustments for you once you have your new denture.

Implant-retained dentures

An implant-retained denture can provide you with more stability. We secure your denture to two or more dental implants. If we use a bar attachment, you can snap your denture in and out. If you have a screw-retained denture, we remove your denture when you come in for maintenance.

Partial

If you’re only missing one or a few teeth, we use a partial denture to give a natural appearance that provides healthy oral function. This denture has a replacement tooth or teeth attached to a gum-colored plastic base that’s held together by a frame. We put crowns on either side of your missing tooth or teeth to which your partial denture attaches so that you can easily remove it.

Not only do we offer you several options, but we work with you to make sure you choose the denture type that benefits you the best.
