Dental Bonding: What to Expect
If you want to improve the look of imperfect teeth, dental bonding can transform your smile in just one visit.
At Advanced Implant Dentistry & MedSpa of North Shore in Glenview, Illinois, Dr. Howard Jeon, Dr. Michael Monto, and our team have the skill set, technology, and expertise to give you a beautiful smile with cosmetic dentistry, which includes dental bonding.
The procedure uses a highly durable, tooth-colored resin that bonds to the surface of your tooth, giving you long-lasting results.
Issues dental bonding can fix
Dental bonding can repair issues if your teeth are:
- Chipped
- Cracked
- Decayed
- Discolored
- Gapped
- Oddly shaped
- Too small
- Too exposed from a receding gum line
The procedure can change the shape of your tooth, make it bigger, or lengthen a shorter tooth to match the other ones.
How dental bonding works
When you come in for dental bonding, you don’t have to worry about scheduling multiple visits. You’ll need only one appointment for the procedure.
If we perform dental bonding strictly for cosmetic reasons, anesthesia won’t be necessary unless requested. However, if you have an underlying issue, such as tooth decay that needs treatment first, our team uses a local anesthetic to numb the targeted area to keep you comfortable throughout both procedures.
To prepare the tooth needing treatment, we clean it and then roughen the surface of it with a special dental tool. This allows the composite resin material to bond to your tooth easily, which also matches the color of your other teeth.
Once we shape the bonded tooth to fit in with your other natural teeth, we use an ultraviolet light to harden the material. The entire process takes about 30-60 minutes depending on the extent of your procedure. When we complete your procedure, you walk out with a transformed, beautiful smile.
